Make a Stumbling Block Your Stepping Stone

School Leadership

“What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

In life, we will always encounter difficult challenges. Whether it is a circumstance we create or that is brought upon us, our attitude will dictate our experience as victim or overcomer! We cannot always control or prevent the problems we face, but we can control our view of them. In fact, the outcome will be rooted in the belief system we choose in the midst of hardship. We can truly see a stumbling block becoming a stepping stone through our belief surrounding a circumstance and taking the right steps to obtain solutions.

To become a leader who achieves in all situations, and even supports others experiencing difficulty, we must choose faith in God’s goodness! We overcome when we choose to believe in the Lord’s kind, redeeming nature, and that He can truly bring about a strategic plan for change. In fact, we can access the answer to a problem when we believe a problem cannot only be tackled, but it can be used for good! With such belief, we can become the hope carriers who encourage positive growth and change in our lives as well as others.

The Promise to Overcome

In Developing the Leader Within You, John C. Maxwell describes how achievers overcome their problems through radical perspective:

They refused to hold on to the common excuses for failure. They turned their stumbling blocks into stepping-stones. They realized they could not determine every circumstance in life, but they could determine their choice of attitude toward every circumstance” (p. 80).

Jesus spoke of this truth according to 1 John 5:4-5. In this chapter, we learn that every God-begotten person overcomes the problems of the world we face through belief in Jesus: “For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? (I John 5:4-5)

Jesus spoke of this truth as recorded in 1 John 5. In this chapter, we learn that every God-begotten person overcomes the problems of the world we face through belief in Jesus: “For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except for the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” (I John 5:4-5) As a school leader, you will encounter challenges. Do not lose heart in the midst of a problem! Invite the Holy Spirit to show you the belief that is full of hope to choose in the moment and to show you the strategy for change.

Declarations for Overcomers

Declarations are foundational to building up faith and increasing expectancy of God’s goodness. We encourage you to declare these powerful statements in the midst of difficulty. They will help you build up faith to overcome any and all circumstances!

  • I am an overcomer!
  • Through the power of the Holy Spirit, I will overcome all hardships in my life!
  • God is turning every circumstance around and using it to empower my destiny!
  • I will see restoration not only in my life, but also the in the lives of others!
  • I have access to powerful revelation and breakthrough that will heal and strengthen the Body of Christ!
  • I am a leader whose belief and testimony will empower others to overcome!

Remember, greater is Jesus inside of you that the one who is in the world (1 John 4:4, NIV)! When you encounter difficulty, invite His Spirit to fill and lead your mind and heart with His love and truth. Invite Him to turn any situation around and use it for your good. He is faithful to make any stumbling block in your life a stepping stone into greater revelation and manifestation of His goodness!
