5 Keys to Being a Powerful School Leader

School Leadership

Over the years, our School Planting & Development team has had the privilege of building relationships with schools of supernatural ministry all over the world. One thing that we have come to learn is that great supernatural schools exist because of great leaders. So, what makes a leader great?

If I Have Not Love…

Leaders are great only to the degree that they love. As a leader, your skills, talents, and level of anointing all cease to matter if you are unsuccessful in leading and loving people well. As 1 Corinthians 13:2 puts it, “If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing” (NIV). Truly, we are nothing without love. But with love, all things are possible!

What can you do to be the love-filled, powerful leader God has made you to be? We have compiled a list of 5 keys to being a powerful school leader that we believe will help you in your journey!

1. Love yourself first
Jesus tells us in Mark 12:31, “Love your neighbor as yourself” (NIV). We believe that it is impossible to love others if you don’t first love yourself. Leaders can easily burn out if they focus all their energy on ministering to others without first taking care of themselves. One of the most powerful things you can do as a leader is to simply receive God’s love for you! Only then will you have something to give to the people around you.

2. Live out of kingdom identity
As a leader in a supernatural school, it is essential that you know who you are. At BSSM, identity is at the foundation of all our teaching because we have come to learn that there is nothing more powerful than a person who lives out of his/her identity in Christ. Be confident in the man or woman that God has made you to be, knowing that you are greatly loved by the Father! Agreeing with this truth will allow you to share great love with your students.

3. Embrace humility
Philippians 2:6-7 says of Jesus, “Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage; rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant” (NIV). Jesus shows us the meaning of love and humility and is our model for servant-leadership. Just as Jesus did, embrace humility as you lead your school. For example, ask questions instead of making assumptions, release people around you to excel in their gifts instead of running a one-man show, and demonstrate grace and compassion instead of control or punishment.

4. Direct students to the Source
Another aspect of being a powerful leader is remembering this simple truth: “Jesus is the healer of hearts, not me.” Instead of trying to fix people or getting stressed out about their issues, remember that Jesus is the answer people are looking for. Teach your students to connect to the Lord, the Provider for all their needs.

5. Champion students into their calling
Kris Vallotton often says, “It doesn’t take a genius to see the dirt in people’s lives. Our job is to call out the gold!” Encouragement is the life-source of a healthy community and is a key factor in seeing people propelled into their destinies. We all know how life-changing it is when another person believes in you and sees you the way God does! Be that person for your students and watch their levels of hope soar and their destinies become reality.

May you be blessed today to be the amazing leader God has made you to be and may your school be radically filled with the love of the Father!
