3 Keys to Becoming a Radical Worshipper

School Culture

Jesus is worthy of all of our admiration, affection, and sacrifice of praise. It is our greatest honor and joy to adore the Lord with our whole hearts and lives. In Psalm 96, David exhorts us to, “Ascribe to the Lord, all you families of nations, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering and come into his courts. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth” (Psalm 96:7-9 NIV)

The world is longing for a passionate, authentic Church, and we were created to be radical worshippers before our Maker, all the days of our lives. Pursuing a lifestyle of worship as God’s beloved sons and daughters, worshipping God with every part of our being, causes those around us to fall more deeply in love with Him.

As school leaders, we encourage you to live in such a way that draws your fellow leaders and students into greater intimacy with the Lord. Indeed, a lifestyle of reverence of the One who is worthy of the highest praise releases an invitation for others to encounter His nature everyday! In today’s blog post, let’s look at three powerful keys that will help you become a radical worshipper.

1. See God Rightly

The book of John reveals that we are called to worship God “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:23 NIV). This means responding to His presence from a place of relationship and right believing. His grace enables us to see Him rightly! This is important in the context of worship because how we see Him determines how we respond to His presence. For example, when we know the truth that God is a good Father and we are His beloved sons and daughters, worship is our natural response. We are moved by the access we have to His presence!

2. Find Your Voice

Eric Johnson once said, “I challenge you to find your voice—to be authentic. If you don’t know how to be authentic you won’t be able to find your voice, you’ll just be singing someone else’s song.”

Finding your voice means learning how to rest in who God has created you to be.

Embrace who you are, first as a child of God and then secondly, according to your gifts, dreams, and passions. There is a new song that God desires to sing through your life! You were created to release it’s sound and message, and for such a time as this. If you don’t sing your song, who will?

3. Pursue Worship as a Lifestyle

If worship is a lifestyle, then our reverence for God’s presence doesn’t have to leave when we are outside of the church walls. We are no longer under the law that once bound worshipers to a geographical location or sacrificial system. In the words of Kim Walker-Smith, “Worship, simply put, is the connection we have to God.” This understanding empowers us to live a transparent life of worship that is not dependent upon circumstances or surroundings. We can stay connected to the heart of God at all times because He never leaves us (Hebrews 13:5).

As you lead your school, we encourage you to pursue an intimate connection with God in every moment. This heart to heart connection will pour through your leadership and affect your entire sphere of influence. God is not looking for mere servants, but a family of laid-down lovers! What a joy to know that we can freely worship Jesus through intimacy with Him, free from the burden of performance.
